وها أنا أخيراً في الإصدار رقم (2,9,2) بعد كم مهول من الفشل في الترقية من الإصدار (2,3,3) إلى الإصدارات التالية.
محاولات فاشلة كثيرة لنقل المدونة دون خسارة الكتابات العربية تكللت أخيراً بالنجاح بعد استخدام المراوغة والتحايل على نظام التطوير وقاعدة البيانات.
لن يظهر الكثير من التغيير للمن يقرأ المدونة، لكني سأتمكن من تعديل الكثير خلال هذه السنة (أو أنوي ذلك) 😀.

If you’re uploading a new firmware image to one of those powerful home xDSL modems from Zhone (formerly Paradyne) you may end up with error message says “Please enter a vlaid File Name.” every time you press the “Update Software” button. Well, it actually have nothing to do with the stupid name, it’s the browser.
Personally, I like to use the FireFox or Chrome, however, for some reason Zhone forces you to use IE to upload the firmware.

It’s an annoying issue when you can access the pwa site through any computer but not from the localmachine.
You may face the error “401.1 Access is denied” with BIG title at the top of the page says “You are not authorized to view this page”. The nice thing I’ve finally (after days of searching and trying fixes) finally found a solution by following this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861
The solution is simply a new DWord value named: DisableLoopbackCheck and valued to 1 under the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlLsa
And reboot the server.

I’ve spent a lot of time to make it work finally.
What do I have?
VMWare Server 2.0.1 built 156745
Ubuntu Desktop x64 Version 9.10 (just upgraded from 9.04) Karmic Koala
Now what happened?
You cannot install the VMWare Server. Even with the right kernel source, the installation script fails. It seems there was a major change at kernel 2.6.29 at which all after kernels were unstable to run the VMWare server.
Searching the net, found a patch (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/215985). However, although the forum clearly mentioned it should work, however, it didn’t.
when running the command:
sudo ./vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh
I got the error:
./vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh: command not found
so I tried:
sudo bash ./vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh
hoping it will till the shell how to execute the script, but again failed with the following error:
./vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh: line 30: syntax error near unexpected token `do
‘/vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh: line 30: `do
SO!! What’s wrong?
Okay this script is NOT executable! Is that so? Fine then, I’ve made it so:
sudo chmod 755 vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh
But again the same error of line 30!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dam it, there is nothing wrong with the code, it looks just fine. Finally, after long search away form the VMWare issues I got the following tip (thanks for the nice guys in here: http://unix.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/comp.unix.shell/2007-04/msg00386.html ) and that fixed my problem.
sudo dos2unix vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh
then :
sudo ./vmware-server.2.0.1_x64-modules-2.6.30.4-fix.sh
just went fine. Finally running the main command:
sudo ./vmware-config.pl
Although I got a hell of warnings and errors, but non of it was a major and things went fine finally. Yes, yes, yes and VMWare server running just fine on my Ubuntu Linux Kernel 2.6.31-10-generic
I hope someone would save some days (or even hours) and not waste as much time as I did.

مع تزايد الحالات التي قابلتها واضطررت للتعامل معها، وكذلك لتزايد ذكاء (ولؤم) مصممي الفيروسات والبرامج المزعجة (Spyware/Adware) وجدت أنه قد يكون مفيداً للبعض أن أعطي التلميحات التالية (والتي تعمل معي منذ أكثر من سبع سنوات) لحماية أجهزتكم الشخصية (الحاسبات الآلية العاملة بنظام ويندوز):
1. لا تترك حساب مسؤول النظام (Administrator) دون كلمة مرور
2. لا تترك أي حساب آخر في النظام لديه الصلاحيات اللازمة لتعديل خواص النظام أو تثبيت/إلغاء تثبيت البرامج (No other administrators). بدلاً عن ذلك اجعل جميع الحسابات الأخرى حسابات عادية (Users)
3. لا تستخدم حساب مسؤول النظام في عملك اليومي، استخدمه فقط عند الضرورة (تركيب برامج، إزالة برامج، تحديث النظام، إلخ)
4. استخدم دائماً مضاداً للفيروسات أصلي، لا تستخدم النسخ الموجودة على الإنترنت أبداً. إن لم تملك واحداً (وهو بالمناسبة أقل من 150 ريال في السنة) يمكنك الحصول على أحد هذين البرنامجين، وهما برأيي الخاص أكثر من كافيين للاستخدام المنزلي: الأول AVIRA والثاني AVG وكلاهما على موقع http://www.download.com
5. لا تقم/تقومي بتثبيت (Setup) أي برامج دون التأكد وتوثيق المصدر. تذكر/تذكري الراوبط المرسلة عن طريق المسنجر والمرسال (البريد الإلكتروني) غالباً ما تكون مرسلة دون علم الطرف الآخر، بمعنى أنه لا يمكنكم الوثوق بها حتى لو كنتم تثقون بالمرسل/المرسلة
6. عند الاصابة (لا سمح الله بفيروس) وفي حالة عدم تمكن مضاد الفيروسات لديكم من إزالته، لا تعمد إلى إزالة مضاد الفيروسات واستبداله بآخر (غالباً ما تكون المشكلة عدم تحديث مضاد الفيروسات أو إساءة استخدام حساب مسؤول النظام). بدلاً من ذلك قم بالاستعانة بصديق لإزالة القرص الصلب من جهازك ووضعه في جهاز موثوق بخلوه من الفيروسات كقرص إضافي، ثم شغل مضاد الفيروسات في الجهاز الجديد ليفحص القرص الصلب الخاص بجهازك، وبعد التأكد من إزالة الفيروسات بإمكانكم إعادته إلى الجهاز الأصلي.
طبعاً كل ما سبق لا يمنع اتخاذ الحيطة بإبقاء نسخة احتياطية من الملفات المهمة (وليس البرامج) في قرص خارجي يمكن الاستعانة به عند الضرورة لا سمح الله. النسخ الاحتياطي ضروري للجميع وأقله أن يكون كل ثلاثة أشهر مرة.
